When reading do you ..?

  • Mainly go slow and have to read it more than once?

  • Miss full stops, commas and other marks?

  • Not understand or easily remember what you have read?

  • Have difficulty with skim/speed reading?

 

When writing/spelling...

  • Do you write in capital letters, or with uneven spacing between words?

  • Make spelling errors even when copying?

  • Have difficulty remembering and spelling common sounds, ou, ew, ie etc.?

  • Have difficulty getting your ideas down on paper?

 

 Do you have difficulties with attention?

  • Become fidgety, “hyperactive”, restless or easily distracted?

  • Get out of reading if you can because it is stressful looking at the page?

  • Daydream in class?

  • Can’t concentrate on homework if other people are moving about?

 

Concerns with visual perception?

  • Do letters begin to look “funny” or moving after reading for a while?

  • Do you lose your place when copying from the board or a book?

  • Do you blink, squint or move your head to make reading “easier”?

 

Do you have light sensitivity?

  • Prefer to read in dull light or in a darker part of the room?

  • Find computer screens, white boards, Smart Boards are too bright or glary?

  • Squint when outside, complain about the light, like to wear a hat?

 

Do you have difficulty with depth perception?

  • Do you accidentally drop things, knock into furniture, spill drinks?

  • Have difficulty catching a (tennis) ball on the full?

  • Veer into people when walking beside them?
